Off the Rails - Playful Pictures
I facilitated a workshop at Off the Rails Arthouse in Ladybank, inspired by my picture book A Little World of Ants. The goal of the workshop was to explore playful ways to make pictures, that encourage interactivity with the reader. The hope was that by the end of the workshop, participants would have a starting point for an interactive picture book inspired by the gardens.
The workshop consisted of an introduction presentation, before five different stages, inspired by my book-making process.
The introduction presentation featured examples of my work from university until now, for some background about my love for making interactive playful illustrations and books.
We then created colourful sketchbooks with paper scraps sources sustainably from ScrapAntics scrap store, and used them as colourful starting points for drawing in the garden.
We then drew from observation, imagination, looked into interactivity and type before developing our ideas into final spread designs. I developed a playful prompt pack to support participants with each stage, to ensure the workshop was suited to all stages of creative ability.
